Our Story

Matt and Elaine initially set up Cuthbert’s from their home bakehouse in 2006 based in Aigburth, Liverpool. Working around their demanding full time jobs in the food manufacturing industry, Cuthbert’s Liverpool cake shop business initially started supplying family and friends before expanding to local markets, shops and cafes with their bakery goods. As the cakes continued to bake and orders continued to rise, their family home became a twenty four hour bakehouse and it was time to expand to their very own premises for cake makers. This was inspired by the late Sheila Price (Cuthbert), who gave them the strength and belief in making their dream of owning a Liverpool cake shop come true.

Our vision is to offer customers the chance to step into their cornucopia of creativity & enjoy great cake and food. Recently celebrating our twelfth birthday in the Cuthbert’s Bakehouse shop, we have constantly pushed the boundaries to inspire each other and create new ideas for our ever evolving cake menu and enable us to share our talk and taste of cake with Liverpool. We pride ourselves on being one of the best cake makers in Liverpool.

Our Homemade Appeal

Elaine is the creativity and ideas generator and Matt’s baking skills bring the ideas and recipes to life, complimenting each other to be a great recipe for success!

The Bakehouse journey has come with a lot of hard work & hours.  It’s amazing to look back and see how the business has grown through hard work and determination. We are constantly developing & creating new recipes as every sweet treat sold in the shop is homemade in the Bakehouse bakery on a daily basis, making Cuthbert’s unique to other café’s and any other other Liverpool cake shop.

We specialise in providing a range of homemade cakes and sweet treats including individual portions, large cakes perfect for birthdays, cupcakes and tarts. Cuthbert’s were the first Liverpool cake shop with Baby Cakes & first to cross the Atlantic with their Whoopie Pies.

The Bakehouse’s best bakes have to be the Red Velvet with its silky smooth frosting, triple layer chocolate fudge cake & all butter scones served with clotted cream & homemade jam.

The Bakehouse has its own identity with customers of all ages and backgrounds enjoying the shop – a testimony to just how far reaching our appeal is!
